A historic Nantwich charity shop will officially reopen its doors on July 28th after an extensive 18-month restoration of its Grade II-listed building.
Cancer Research UK’s shop on High Street will welcome shoppers back from 10am when staff, volunteers and supporters will celebrate the official reopening of the store.
The grand reopening marks the return of one of the town’s best-supported charity shops.
Every purchase and donation helps fund life-saving cancer research and support people affected by the disease.
Customers will be able to browse a wide selection of donated clothing, books, homeware and accessories, with all proceeds supporting Cancer Research UK’s research into more than 200 types of cancer.
The reopening follows more than a year of conservation work after the 16th-century building – originally constructed as two separate dwellings with a shared party wall – was found to have suffered decades of deterioration dating back to the 1980s and 1990s.
Engineers uncovered historic plumbing works that required careful reassessment before a new party wall could be constructed, with repairs also extending into the neighbouring property.
More than £250,000 was diverted from Cancer Research UK’s funds to complete the project.
Specialist teams used traditional materials including goat hair lime plaster, linseed-based paint, tar and oak.
The charity is encouraging residents to support the new-look shop by donating good-quality unwanted items.
The shop accepts men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, shoes, handbags, jewellery, books, CDs, DVDs, linens and quality homeware. White goods, furniture and damaged items cannot be accepted.
Cancer Research UK is also looking to recruit new volunteers to help run the store, with anyone interested invited to speak to the shop manager.
Shop manager Lynn Clegg said: “We are thrilled to be reopening our doors and welcoming the Nantwich community back after such a long wait.
“The shop looks fantastic and we’re incredibly grateful for everyone’s patience and support during the restoration.
“Every item donated, every purchase made and every volunteer who gives their time helps fund life-saving cancer research.
“We can’t wait to see both familiar and new faces when we reopen.”
The shop will be open Monday to Saturday, 8.30am to 5pm, and Sundays from 10am to 4pm.
