A driver has been seriously injured in a crash which closed the busy A51 Nantwich bypass today.

The accident happened at around 2.15pm between Peacock and Sainsbury’s roundabouts.

The collision involved a White Toyota Chaser and a HGV.

Cheshire Police said the driver of the Toyota is believed to have sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

The road was closed by police to allow for recovery at the scene.

  1. The cars hurtle off the bypass from Shavington and don’t slow down for the roundabout, nor do they bother to indicate that they’re rejoining the A51 towards Sainsburys. Same in the opposite direction too. Feel sorry for anyone trying to cross at the Peacock roundabout!

  2. The A51 is not controlled.. in particular from Snugburys towards Chester , every week day and Saturday people drive without consideration and reac speeds in excess of 50/60.its a question of time before someone is seriously injured or worse.

  3. The A51 as a bypass road is far too busy and isn’t wide enough for the amount of traffic. There will be many more ‘accidents’ happening on the whole of A51. Too many vehicles – articulated lorries, 7 ton trucks, vans, cars, etc. Too many speeding also. A51 seriously needs to be looked at as a main hub from Chester to Nantwich/Crewe and as a means of vehicles avoiding the motorways.
