Crewe CC 3 - Rory Kalnins

Crewe Vagrants CC men’s teams notched impressive wins once again, despite playing in the stifling heat.

The 1sts, away at Norton-in-Hales, lost the toss and were put into bat.

They reached 31 before losing Nathan Twiddle(11), and Rory Kalnins (31) was out with 55 on the board.

Top batter Lew Bacon and Ollie Jarvis then took the game by the scruff of the neck and helped produce an outstanding unbroken stand of 201 runs.

Crewe declared after 46 overs and an huge 256 for 2, with Jarvis on 70 and Bacon on 121 not out.

Then fine economic and penetrative deliveries from Ollie Jarvis (3-29 off 11 overs) in his second role destroyed any hope of a win for Norton.

That hope was further diminished with the arrival of Crewe’s dependable Faiser Mahmood.

In his spell of eight overs, he removed five home team batters for only 10 runs.

The end came quickly with Crewe using only half the overs and a margin of some 180 runs. Rory Kalnins and Ben Jarvis took a wicket apiece.

The 2nd team hosted Betley who fell foul of a classic bowling pairing of tightness at one end and flare at the other.

John Minshull’s (1-21 off 8) and Aveesh Alluri’s (4-20) did the damage.

Two fine stands each of 65 changed the outlook as Betley fought their way back.

C Richards (35) was involved in both. The first with S Sanghvi (28) and the second with N Nixon (45).

Two good catches from Frazier Hoye and Aveesh put Crewe back in the driving seat with Betley’s remaining batters falling for a competitive 143.

In reply, young Matt Whittingham opened with another double figure score (11) and partner Pun Nidamanuri (40) continued the chase.

His stand of 63 with another top batting display from Frazier Hoye (63NO) took Crewe close to the finishing post.

Frazier’s final stand with returning-from-injury Sam Youds (11NO) saw the game to its conclusion and a win by 7 wickets.
