This year’s Nantwich “Tree of Light” is to be dedicated to young biker Josh Stockton who tragically died in a road accident last month.

The Tree of Light has become a popular and loved event in the town, organised by Nantwich Town Council.

It gives families and friends a chance to remember the loss of loved ones and to think about those less fortunate in the run up to Christmas.

This year, the tree is being lit up on Sunday November 2 outside St Mary’s Church Parish Rooms in honour of Josh (pictured).

Jen Williams, Josh’s mum, said: “I was contacted by the council who asked if they could dedicate the Tree of Light to him this year.

“It seems fitting given that he lit up any room he walked into. We (as a family) have been very touched to be considered for this.”

A spokesperson for Nantwich Town Council said: “This year the Tree of Light is dedicated to Josh Stockton.

“His sad passing at the age of just 22, has touched the whole community.”

People are invited to make a £5 donation to dedicate a bauble on the Tree of Light to a loved one or a special cause.

Donations can be made at Nantwich Civic Hall where you can fill a bauble with a name, message or items of your choice.

Those who have previously purchased a bauble can return it to be re-hung for a donation of £3.

In addition, names can be also be listed on Nantwich Town Council webpage of remembrance.

The full cost of the tree is covered by the town council and all donations will be divided between the Mayor’s charities and St Mary’s Church.

The lighting up of the tree will take place on Sunday 2nd November at 5.30pm and will include a short service of prayer, hymns and poetry.

Josh died after a collision with another vehicle on Crewe Road in Willaston in September.

He was a popular member of the biking community and had been due to start a new job as chef at GOAT bar in Nantwich.

Hundreds of friends and members of the biking community took part in a moving funeral procession through the town last Thursday (September 25).
