A first-time show garden designer has achieved the highest accolade at this year’s Arley Hall Garden Festival
Dani Harrington, of Canalside Garden Centre in Wrenbury, was awarded the prestigious Best in Show honour.
The award-winning garden called “Wild at Heart, Modern in Mind” was the first show garden Dani has ever created for competition.
Judged using Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) criteria, the garden received outstanding feedback from judges who described it as ‘A Gardener’s Garden’.
It was a fitting tribute to Dani’s vision of celebrating plants and demonstrating what can be achieved in any garden, whatever its size.
The design combines wildlife-friendly planting with a contemporary layout.
It was inspired by the way plants grow in nature and proves that spectacular displays don’t have to be highly structured or high maintenance.
The achievement was made even more remarkable as it was built during the three hottest days of the year!
Dani said: “Winning Gold and Best in Show is something I never imagined, especially as this is my very first show garden.
“We wanted to create a garden that puts plants first, a garden that feels natural, relaxed and achievable for everyone.
“To hear the judges call it a ‘Gardeners Garden’ was incredibly special because that’s exactly what we hoped to create.
“This award belongs to the whole team. The people on site worked tirelessly in incredible heat to build the garden, while the team back at Canalside kept everything running smoothly.
“We grew 95% of the plants ourselves so it was a true team effort from start to finish and I’m so proud of everyone.”
The Best in Show award is a significant achievement for the independent Garden Centre, on Frith Lane in Wrenbury.
