Fire crews battled a major blaze today after fire in a shed spread to two houses in Wrenbury near Nantwich.

Fire engines from Nantwich, Crewe, Chester, Winsford, Northwich and Middlewich, plus the aerial ladder platform from Chester, the Incident Command Unit and support from Shropshire and Staffordshire fire and recue service attended.

It started at a property on Sandfield Avenue in Wrenbury shortly after 2.30am in a shed containing gas canisters.

A fire service spokesperson said: “Crews were initially called to deal with reports of a shed well alight behind two semi-detached houses.

“It is believed the shed contain gas canisters and despite the efforts of firefighters wearing breathing apparatus using hose reel water jets to contain it, the fire spread to the first floor of one of the houses and then into the adjoining property.

“More fire engines and resources were mobilised and firefighters have been working throughout the early hours to tackle the blaze wearing breathing apparatus and using main jets, the aerial ladder platform and hose reel water jets.

“There have been no casualties and residents from neighbouring properties were evacuated while firefighters dealt with the fire.

“Attendance has now been reduced to three fire engines as the fire has been extinguished.

“Crews will remain at the scene this morning to continue damping down and determine the cause.”

At around 6am, Cheshire Police said: “Due to a incident in the area of Oakfield Avenue, Wrenbury.

“Fire crews are still dealing at scene and likely to be there for a period of time.

“This may well impact local residents of area particularly anyone wish to access/egress Oakfield Avenue.”
