Longton - returning against Silhillians - Joe Gammage, scored a hat-tricl against Earlsdon

Crewe & Nantwich piled up a club record 106-8 victory in the Midland Intermediate Cup against Bakewell Mannerians.

And the team dedicated the win to their team-mate Kieran Flynn, recoving from a horrific injury in hospital.

Crewe ran in 16 tries at the Vagrants as Andy Brown’s easily overcame their first hurdle in a bid to reach the Twickenham final.

The club first reached Twickenham back in 1997, and a second visit would be a fitting tribute to Flynn, who’s rugby career is in doubt following the neck-break horror in a summer pre-season match.

“Now the lads want to dedicate this victory to him – and go all the way to Twickenham for Kieran if we can,” said coach Brown.

“This was a record score for the club. We wanted to make a good start in the competition, but we didn’t expect it to be as good as that.”

Josh Collins led the way in the try stakes, diving over four times, with Oli Buckley scoring a hat-trick.

Josh Howard and Joe Gammage scored two tries apiece, and there were further five-pointers for skipper Niall McGregor, Aaron Barker, Thom Vanstone, Killian Roche and Jamie Little.

Little kicked 13 of the 16 conversions.
