The man who died when his car and a lorry crashed on the A51 bypass in Nantwich was named today as Richard Hopley.
The 56-year-old, from Crewe, was travelling towards the A500 at Cheerbrook roundabout, Willaston when his car collided with a truck.
Today his family paid tribute to Mr Hopley (pictured) who leaves behind wife Jane, daughters Claire and Laura, and son James.
In a family statement, they said: “He was a warm, loving, and devoted family man, whose gentle kindness will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.
“The support and care from family and friends has been overwhelming at such a sad time.”
The collision happened on the A51, about 100 yards from the Cheerbrook Roundabout at the junction with the A500 at 4.50am yesterday (Monday December 23)
Mr Hopley was driving a silver Vauxhall Astra which collided with a white DAF articulated lorry with trailer travelling towards Chester.
Mr Hopley suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to Leighton Hospital, but despite the efforts of medical staff, he died a short while later.
The lorry driver was shaken, but not injured.
The road was closed between the Cheerbrook and Peacock roundabouts for several hours while police accident investigators examined the scene.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to get in touch.
