The wife of a Crewe & Nantwich rugby player is to tackle a daring skydive to raise funds for her husband’s stricken team-mate.
Elyssa Germain is plucking up the courage for the leap in honour of Crewe & Nantwich star Kieran Flynn.
Elyssa said: “I am of the understanding that he went in to tackle an opposing player and in a freak accident, broke his neck which has left him paralysed from the waist down.
“I know that Kieran continues to improve but there is a long and unsure road ahead of him.
“At the time of the accident he was only 22, a terrible age to suffer such a horrific and life changing incident.
“However the strength and positivity he has shown since the accident is nothing short of admirable.”
Elyssa’s husband David Germain was playing in the same game in which Kieran was injured.
“It really shook the club to the core,” added Elyssa.
“What struck me most was that there was nothing to say that this may happen to him one day, or any other Crewe & Nantwich Player, and I know how hard life would be should this occur.”
Elyssa is raising money for the RFU Injured Players Foundation which has been supporting Kieran since the day of the accident.
“They have supported him and his family in every way thinkable and will continue to do so throughout his lifetime,” Elyssa added.
“The RFU Injured Players Foundation does amazing work to try and make the game safer, but they are also there when it all goes horribly wrong and continue to support the injured player and their families now and forever.
“It is for this reason I decided to support the RFU Injured Players Foundation.”
She has already raised nearly £300 towards her £1,000 target and is hoping for much more before she makes the big jump.
