Nantwich school winners of 2014 Rotary Art competition unveiled

Young artistic talents of Nantwich primary schools are celebrating success in a local competition.

Five schools participated in the 2014 Rotary Art Competition organised by The Rotary Club of Nantwich.

It attracted more than 400 entries.

The central theme was “old industries, trades and shops of Nantwich”, with the children gaining inspiration from exhibits in Nantwich Museum.

Local artists Martin Greenwood and Claire Somerville judged the entries and praised the children’s talent.

All participants received a certificate and prize, and the winning schools received cash prizes.

Presentations were made by Ashley Weaver, President of the Rotary Club.

Overall winners were Gracie and Henry Springthorpe, from Willaston Primary School.

Overall runners up were Harriet Connor and Evie Macintosh, both from Acton Church of England Primary School.

Year 5: Kathryn Stewart (Acton); Lily Cassidy (Sound & District)

Year 6: Harriet Connor (Acton); Bethan Peters (Sound & District)

Local organisations which sponsored the exhibition include Mornflake Oats Ltd, Sainsbury’’s Nantwich, The Almshouse Charity of William Hodgkin, Delmar Press, The Works and The Rotary Club of Nantwich.

The exhibition remains at the museum until Saturday May 31.
