Nantwich Food and Drink Festival organisers are promising an even tastier array of attractions when the popular “feastival” returns to the town centre this week.
The event is free of charge and offers more than 400 attractions across the heart of the town in shops and marquees.
Visitors to the festival from Friday, September 23 until Sunday, September 25, can mingle with celebrity chefs, enjoy fine food, beer and wine, and celebrate the best of food and drink from Cheshire and beyond.
More shops than ever are onboard this year and have come up with their own novel foodie activities.
Children can try their hand at creating cupcakes, making pizzas or decorating gingerbread men. Families can enter a pancake tossing contest, see award-winning sausages being made and learn how to make Continental crepes.
Adults can enter a cocktail-making class, taste whisky, champagne and wines or let their hair down at a beer festival.
All the town’s main food and drink outlets will be involved in one way or another, either staging demonstrations of food-making or handing out samples.
Many non-food outlets are also on board staging displays of craft-making or offering special discounts on goods over festival weekend.
Festival chairman Graham Fenton said: “The organising committee is absolutely flabbergasted at the range of activities. More than 200 activities are now listed on the festival website over the three days.
“They include many quirky, fun activities that families will love. There’s plenty for the grown ups too with some very generous wine and spirits sampling.
“Even the non-food outlets have got involved. And when you consider there’s free entry and everything taking place in the heart of our compact and beautiful town, this is definitely an event not to be missed.”
Stands and attractions will be spread across town, on pub car parks and inside Nantwich Civic Hall which will become the Mornflake Food Hall as well as in a new marquee on the Bowling Green car-park.
There will also be a Farmers Market on the town square.
Graham added: “Families can wander round, soak up the atmosphere and sample the delicacies, without spending a penny on entry fees. Everywhere we go people are delighted to hear that.”
Funding has come from Cheshire East Council, Nantwich Town Council and Mornflake.
