Cheshire East Council’s change from cabinet to committee has seen the end of a system which brought “ignominy to this council, with police investigations into some decisions”, a councillor said.
Councillors from all parties agreed the committee system, which replaced the cabinet system in May last year, had so far been successful.

I read this article with interest – after all, I was the Cabinet member in 2015 who oversaw the implementation of this policy.
Cheshire East Council will hold its final meeting on May 4 before it changes from a Cabinet to committees system.
The authority’s Annual General Meeting will be held remotely on Tuesday 4 May, at 5pm.

Cllr James Nicholas campaigned and was even one of the prime architects to organise a petition for removal of the cabinet system and replace it with a committee system.

Plans to improve cycling and walking provision across Cheshire East have been approved by council leadership.
The CEC cabinet today approved the implementation of “Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans” (LCWIPs) — covering Crewe, Congleton, Macclesfield, and Wilmslow.
Cheshire East Council has agreed initial steps to boost carbon emission reduction at Leighton Grange near Crewe.
Councillors in the Cabinet have agreed the council can press ahead with its goal to install solar panels to provide energy to the composting plant at the site, along with initiating a tree planting scheme.

Financial plans which would see residents pay 4.99% more council tax next year have moved a step closer to final sign-off.
Councillors voted yesterday (February 2) to send the authority’s budget for full council approval later this month.

At the Environment and Regeneration Overview and Scrutiny meeting on Monday 18th January 2021, I raised the point that Cllr Craig Browne mentioned at Cabinet last week that “The Transport Ministry has confirmed that CEC’s expression of interest to the (government) rural mobility fund has been successful”.

A new shared vision “for children and young people in Cheshire East” has been formally endorsed by the borough’s cabinet.
The vision includes aims such as making “families and communities strong, welcoming and supportive, where differences are celebrated”.
Cheshire East Council councillors have backed a move to a committee system form of governance.

At September’s council cabinet meeting, officials estimated the authority would lose roughly £50 million of income due to the coronavirus pandemic.
