Hundreds of motorists were caught up in long tailbacks on the A51 near Nantwich today after highways closed it to empty gullies.
Drivers reported tailbacks of mor than three miles back past Barbridge with the closure in place on the A51 between Reaseheath roundabout and Bluestone Lights.
Angry parish councillors near Nantwich are clubbing together to call on highways chiefs to stop leaving rural areas “cut off” by flooded roads.
Villagers in the Wrenbury, Newhall, Sound and Marbury areas say council bosses have left them stranded by failing to empty gullies and clear the floods.

Councillors in Cheshire East are again calling for action to clear blocked gullies – claiming their regular reports of problems are falling on deaf ears.
Cheshire East Council has stepped up efforts to clear gullies following the major flooding which first hit the borough last summer – with an extra two gully emptying machines being used.

Work is being stepped up to clear gullies across parts of Cheshire East that were hit by flooding this summer.
Paul Traynor, head of highways at Cheshire East Council, told councillors two more gully clearing machines are being used in an attempt to clear as many grids as possible by the end of the year.
Residents in Wrenbury are demanding action on a road that has been flooded for months, causing problems for emergency services and other users.
Flood waters have plagued the junction of Pinsley Green Road and Station Road since the turn of the year.
