Adoption day for retired hens to be held in Nantwich

A third adoption day for retired caged hens due for slaughter is being held in Nantwich on Sunday May 26.

The event has been organised by the British Hen Welfare Trust, a national rehoming charity which saves more than 60,000 hens from slaughter every year.

1,000th hen set to be re-homed in latest Nantwich event

The British Hen Welfare Trust team in Cheshire is on track to rehome the 1,000th hen of 2019 at their collection event this weekend (April 7).

So far this year, the team has helped send more than 940 hens off to pet homes, and save them from slaughter.

Workers at a Nantwich abattoir have had licences revoked after an undercover film showing treatment of horses being slaughtered. The film, made at the Red Lion abattoir at Broomhall, near Wrenbury, shows images of horses being beaten and neglected.
