Councillors ignore planners and approve new Aldi store for Crewe

Plans for a new Aldi store in Crewe have been approved after developers vowed to spend £40,000 to protect great crested newts on the site.

Cheshire East Council’s strategic planning board passed proposals for the land, off University Way, despite officers recommending it for refusal.

Cheshire East planners call for new Aldi store in Crewe to be rejected again

Planning officers are again calling on councillors to reject Aldi’s plans for a new Crewe store despite more than 3,000 people signing a petition to support it.

The retailer is closing its supermarket at the Grand Junction retail park next year and wants to build the new 1,801sq m store off University Way as a state-of-the-art replacement.
