A van went up in flames outside a popular country pub in Wrenbury, Nantwich.
The drama unfolded as the van came off the lift bridge over the Shropshire Union Canal.
Witnesses say the van lost power as it came off the bridge and came to a stop outside the Dusty Miller.
Smoke was seen billowing out from the engine compartment.
The van burst into flames just moments after two men inside managed to get out.
Nantwich retained fire crew attended the scene earlier today.
They said they were called at around midday to Cholmondeley Road
A Cheshire Fire spokesperson said: “Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished a van fire affecting the engine compartment and dashboard using a hose reel jet.
“The road was closed while crews worked to make the scene safe. The vehicle was later moved to a nearby car park. No injuries were reported.”
It’s believed the van was loaded with lino for new houses in Wrenbury.
One witness said: “They’re clearly not going to have it fitted today!”
