This stunning picture of the winter sun setting over the Cheshire plain was sent in by photographer Jonathan White.

He took the shot from South Cheshire College in Crewe looking west towards the Mid Cheshire Ridge.

South Cheshire residents have been treated to some stunning sunsets this week, with clear skies settling over the region.

But forecasters have warned it will come at a price tonight – with one of the coldest nights so far this winter.

Temperatures are expected to plummet to around -8 or -9 degrees, and even lower in rural areas of Cheshire.

Similar temperatures are set for Friday and overnight into Saturday, but it should feel a little milder by Sunday, say forecasters.

Further to your Cheshire weather story, I’ve been following a Wistaston resident on the Internet in recent weeks. Jon Eyes owns a home-based electronic weather station which he’s linked to the World Wide Web: http://www.duncreggan.net/weather/wistaston.html .
He’s also setup the weather station to tweet via computer over the Internet every 30 minutes. Each tweet contains brief information from the weather station including the local temperature, humidity, barometric pressure and wind speed. The weather station Twitter address is http://twitter.com/Wistaston_Wx. It s been fascinating to see how far below zero the temperature has dropped during the night-time so far over the Winter.
