A charity night in honour of the Mayor of Nantwich’s late wife is to be held in the town’s Civic Hall this month.

Mayor Cllr Arthur Moran wants the evening to help pay tribute to his wife Margaret who died in January after a short battle with cancer.

Margaret helped to organise the Mayor’s Charity Dance every year, which has raised thousands of pounds for good causes including cancer charities.

Her funeral at St Mary’s Church in Nantwich raised an amazing £2,000 in donations, which Cllr Moran presented to St Luke’s (Cheshire) Hospice this week.

Now he hopes the charity dance on March 16 will pay a fitting tribute to his late wife’s hard work.

He said: “She was always such a big help behind the scenes in putting this and other events together, so I wanted to do arrange the charity dance as a tribute in her name.”

The dance, which will feature the popular Todd Miller and the Joe Loss Orchestra, will be staged from 8pm and tickets are just £15.

Money raised will go towards the Leighton Hospital Prostate Cancer Support Group and Cheshire branch of the Motor Neurone Association.

“We know people who have been in direct contact with these groups and what valuable work they do,” said Cllr Moran.

“It should be a great night, please come and support us.”
