A Nantwich man has set off on a charity walk around Crewe and Nantwich to gain donations from local businesses and well-wishers.

Neil Olsson was inspired by the Olympic Torch Relay to devise a route that will allow him to call in and see as many firms as possible.

He is raising much-needed cash for Cancer Research UK.

The 27-year-old will take part in the Manchester SHINE night walk over a half marathon, so his route around the South Cheshire towns is good preparation as well as a way to secure pledges.

The business manager for Nantwich company http://www.myexpensesonline.co.uk has called on companies such as Absolute Recruitment and Mornflake Oats and walked away with donations and pledges topping more than £250.

Neil, a member of the local Crewe and Nantwich Cancer Research branch, said it’s also in honour of his family.

He said: “My family lost my grandma at the early age of 48 and we really want to be able to help other families to avoid the heartache mine went through.

“I want to show people that raising money could make the world of difference to cancer victims and their close ones.

“As it stands, the £250 raised already from the generosity of local firms can fund two cancer information nurses to help support friends and family and educate patients to the options available to them.”

Neil’s managing director Richard Coope said: “We are extremely proud of Neil.

“I admire the energy and enthusiasm Neil gives Cancer Research UK, and we will be supporting him every step of the way.”

Dan Marshall, from Absolute Recruitment, added: “Neil called on us out of the blue and we were only too happy to help because cancer has been an issue close to our hearts recently.

“I’m sure his walk will inspire other local businesses to support him and raise much more than the £250 he’s raised already.”
