Rev Peter Chantry and Mayor Cllr Graham Fenton

The outgoing rector of St Mary’s Church in Nantwich has been rewarded for his 13 years service to the town.

Rev Peter Chantry was thanked by town councillors for his work across Nantwich.

Rev Chantry, leaving his post at the town centre church for fresh challenges, paid tribute to Nantwich.

“It’s a great town, a remarkable place, and wonderful to be Minister,” he said.

“With the church right in the middle and at the heart of the town and community, it’s a fabulous place to lead a team, a team of committed and dedicated volunteers.

“St Mary’s is an iconic place, but it’s about the people as well as the building.

“And it’s been a huge privilege to be Rector of such a lovely fellowship.”

Cllr Arthur Moran paid tribute to Rev Chantry, who he has known for many years.

“I must thank him on behalf of the town and for the work he has done for St Mary’s,” added Cllr Moran.

“He is going to be a hard act to follow, but things have to move on and we wish him all the best of luck.”
