A Nantwich radio presenter is gearing up to cycle across Cuba – 250 miles in just five days.

Helen Pegg, who works on The Cat community radio station, has signed up for a journey of a lifetime.

In October, the 48-year-old from Wistaston will take part in the “Women V Cancer Cycle Cuba Challenge“.

She has been inspired to tackle the challenge after participating in “Cycle Kenya” in 2011.

Helen, who works as a health and safety advisor, said some of the women in that event, many who were recovering from cancer themselves, have encouraged her to continue to support them.

Helen is also passionate about the three charities she is supporting in her fundraising efforts – Breast Cancer Care, Ovarian Cancer Action and Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust.

“They all do amazing work,” said Helen.

“It’s also about raising awareness so that these cancers are detected early enough to be treated.”

Helen organised a pamper night at Crewe Hall on Friday May 24 to help raise some funds towards the cost of the challenge. The event raised more than £380.
