Hundreds of competitors and thousands of spectators helped make the latest Cheshire Triathlon in Nantwich a huge success.

There were 980 entrants competing in seven different categories of race in a sun-drenched Barony Park and surrounding area.

There was the male and female “sprint”, the male and female “super sprint”, the male and female “fun” race, and a relay event.

James Briscoe, from Wistaston, was one of the best local performers as the 19-year-old finished in third place in the male sprint, which includes a 500m swim, 2okm bike ride and 5km run around the Barony.

Competitors ranged in age from 16 through to 70+ years old, with the first entering the outdoor pool at 8.30am and the last in at 1.40pm.

The last person crossing the finish line was at 3.10pm, to huge cheers from the crowd.

“As always the atmosphere was fantastic, the weather kind and it would appear fun was had by all,” said Zoe Steenson, UKTriathlon spokeswoman for Cheshire area.

Competitors ranged from pro-triathletes to first timers and those who entered to raise money for their chosen charities.
