Nantwich Town boss Danny Johnson watched his side hit six passed Droylsden – then labelled the performance “disappointing”.

Six different scorers netted for the Dabbers who cruised passed the bottom club, but Johnson feels they could have been more clinical.

Nantwich were 3-0 up early on thanks to strikes by Aaron Burns, Max Harrop and Russell Courtney.

The hosts pulled one back before the break through Daniel McGloughlin’s back post shot.

But the Dabbers took advantage of Droylsden’s fragile confidence with three more strikes in the second half.

Captain Alex Frost netted on 64 minutes, but Matt Bailey (82) and Harry Clayton (90) secured the hammering late on.

Despite the scoreline, Johnson feels his side can do better.

“6-1 says we totally dominated the game but I don’t think that was the case,” he said.

“In patches Droylsden did really well and they attacked us quite well on the break.

“Dave Pace’s teams are always very adventurous, he likes to get forward and get on the front foot and you can see that but you can also see that’s why they get picked off quite often.

“I thought in the second half especially, we just picked them off because there were tired legs, but overall I’m disappointed in the performance, I’m not going to say because we won 6-1 we were magnificent because we weren’t.”

Johnson feels his players put in a stronger performance in the 3-2 home defeat by Worksop Town.

“I thought we were probably better against Worksop.

“I think Worksop are a better team than Droylsden so I wasn’t too disappointed last week – I was with the result but not performance – because I felt sometimes we played some good football and the way we showed desire to claw ourselves back in to get to 2-2 we showed a lot of good attributes last week.

“I’m just really disappointed with the overall performance because I think we should’ve probably had the game wrapped up by five or six goals at half time and showed a real killer instinct.

“We’ve not done that so that’s disappointing for me but I’m not being greedy, we’ve won 6-1 and put three points on the board and I’ll take that.”

However, Johnson is positive about how some of his players are developing and slotting into his system, highlighting Oliver Devenney, Max Harrop and Matty O’Neill in particular.

Andy White, who was unavailable for selection, is carrying an ankle injury and will probably be out for at least another week.

Danny Caldecott, back from suspension, is not fully fit but will probably be available for selection the same time.
