Connor Naismith - Labour candidate for Crewe and Nantwich

MP for Crewe & Nantwich Connor Naismith has been appointed Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Department for Transport, it was announced today.

The role will see Mr Naismith support the Department for Transport as it delivers the Government’s transport agenda.

He will work closely with Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander in Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s re-shaped Cabinet team.

He said today the appointment will “strengthen my ability to advocate for improvements to transport and connectivity for Crewe & Nantwich”.

He believes the new appointment will provide “a closer role in supporting the Department’s work while continuing to champion the transport priorities of Crewe & Nantwich and the wider region”.

Mr Naismith said: “I’m delighted to have been asked to serve as a Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Transport.

“As the MP for Crewe and Nantwich, I have been a vocal champion on the importance of greater connectivity across our country whether that be by bus, car, train or otherwise.

“I look forward to continuing that work now by supporting the Department for Transport to deliver on the commitments we have made and the agenda of the new Prime Minister.

“Thankfully, this won’t change how I do my job as the Member of Parliament for Crewe and Nantwich – a job I love.

“I will still be doing everything I can to get things done for people across Crewe and Nantwich and seeking to use my position and influence to get the best deal from government.”
