Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity at Leighton Hospital has reached £250,000 in its MRI Scanner Appeal.

Charity bosses say they have been “overwhelmed” by the response to their latest appeal.

Supporters have been going the extra mile to raise money, from running 10kms and marathons and holding parties to auctions, raffles, family events and coffee mornings.

Donations have also been made in memory of family members and one-off contributions have been given to the appeal.

Laura Riddle, charity manager, said she is very grateful for the support received so far.

“The generosity of the public and local businesses to this appeal has been fantastic and it is a great achievement we have already reached the £250 thousand mark.

“We hope we will continue to receive this level of support in order for us to reach the £1 million target by March 2016.”

The charity is promoting its “Send Us Your Elfie” campaign which is spreading on social media.

Participants are encouraged to take photos of themselves dressed as an elf – or any Christmas themed selfie – post it on social media and nominate their friends, family and colleagues using the hashtags #MCHCElfie and #TeamElfie

The current MRI scanner is working to full capacity between 8am to 8pm, seven days a week, with around 30 patients a day being scanned.

So bosses are keen to procure and install an additional MRI scanner to address the shortfall in capacity.

Mid Cheshire Hospitals Charity are hoping that everyone who posts an ‘Elfie’ will donate up to £10 by texting ‘ELFI12’, along with the amount they wish to donate to 70070 (for example texting ELFI125 would donate £5 to the appeal).
