Nantwich Town manager Danny Johnson spoke of his “disappointment” after the Dabbers were humbled by lowly Witton Albion on Boxing Day.

And it was the manner of the 3-0 defeat away at their local rivals which left Johnson upset.

A brace from Jamie Rainford and one from Danny Andrews gave the Albion all three points in the Cheshire Derby.

Nantwich were hoping to put Friday’s defeat behind them in their scheduled match away at Frickley yesterday, but that game was postponed by the weather.

Johnson said: “Losing 3-0 to anyone is disappointing, especially after the way we have played over the last two or three weeks.

“I thought we did ok, but we can’t make individual errors like we have done and we will look to sort that over the next few weeks.

“Terry’s [Smith] goal kick straight to their lad and Mat Bailey should have probably been sent off a couple of minutes before for doing the same thing.

“He hadn’t learnt.”

Johnson also said some players had struggled to cope with the heavy rain and tough pitch conditions.

He said: “The pitch was really heavy.

“But again there is no excuse for me. We have been beaten 3-0, they took their chances and fair play to Witton.

“They have and we haven’t because that is what is all about. They deserved to win over the 90 minutes.”

Witton’s second goal came on the stroke of half time as a goal kick from Smith landed straight to Rainford who lashed it home.

But it didn’t change Johnson’s half time talk.

He said: “It didn’t change it. The next goal is crucial at 2-0 anyway.

“It was the third one that changed the complex of the game because I thought up until that point they rarely got out of their own half and we did it for long period of the first and second half.

“But our final ball into the box was quite poor and I thought we should have worked the keeper more.”

Nantwich return to action on New Year’s Day, at home to Ramsbottom United, kick off 3pm.
