Donation of Accuvein Unit to Leighton Hospital

Expectant mums at Leighton Hospital’s award-winning maternity unit will now have access to state-of-the-art equipment.

The hospital’s Prostate Cancer Support Group has donated an Accuvein Unit, having previously donated one to the phlebotomy and medical imaging departments.

Gary Steele MBE, chairman of the support group, agreed to raise the £3,840 needed to purchase the unit and finding out where they could be bought.

Liz Price, maternity outpatients department manager, said: “I am delighted to now have our own Accuvein!

“It will help us make a real difference to expectant parents, who will no longer have to be sent to different departments if we experience problems drawing blood samples.”

The group ran several fundraising events, including a Line Dance weekend in Llandudno organised by Win Bond, which raised £1,200.

Gary Steele said: “We are delighted to help the maternity unit, although our focus is on Prostrate Cancer, we like to also support the hospital in other areas where we can.”

The equipment has been supplied by Una Health Ltd, based in Stoke-on-Trent.

  1. They could do with one at Kiltearn Doctors as it would be really useful there for difficult patients.
