Andy Small, cerebral palsy Games

A charity worker from Nantwich is representing England at the Cerebral Palsy International Sport and Recreation Association Games.

Andy Small, 22, who was born with cerebral palsy, was inspired to get involved in wheelchair racing by the London Paralympics in 2012.

And he has done so well with his club Stockport Wheelchair Racing – affiliated with Stockport Harriers athletics club – he was chosen to compete in the games in Nottingham which began today

Andy, who walks with the aid of crutches and sometimes uses a wheelchair, will race in the 100m and 200m competitions.

He has worked as a young adviser for The Children’s Society since September 2014 where his work involves ensuring children and young people have a say in local health services.

Andy said: “I thought I might have a chance of being selected but I was still over the moon when I found out the news.

“I’m really excited about taking part and will give everything.”

As for the future, Andy admits the ultimate achievement would be to become a Paralympian himself.

“That would be the dream, of course,” he added.

The Children’s Society runs local services, helping children and young people at their most vulnerable.

It campaigns for changes to laws affecting children and young people.
