Audlem ladies in charity football match in aid of NWAA

A team of ladies near Nantwich are donning football boots for the first time – to raise money for North West Air Ambulance.

The women will be taking on established local league side Audlem FC in their first ever game of football this Sunday August 16 at Audlem playing field.

And despite most of them never having kicked a ball before, they decided to rise to the challenge in aid of NWAA.

One of the organisers Brittany Wright said: “We decided to do NWAA as it’s a charity and is always looking for donations – plus you never know when you might need them!

“It all started as a bit of a joke. We were just sat in the local pub and thought we could set a girls’ football team up and maybe have a match against Audlem FC.

“We have done a charity quiz night at the Lord Combermere in Audlem which raised more than £400, and we have also set up a just giving page.

“We have trained every Tuesday night without fail as many of us have never played football before.”

Three Audlem players, Barry Parker, Kevin Mort and Alan Brindley, have helped them train.

The match kicks off at 11am this Sunday, August 16.

The ladies team includes:
