tree blown down in storm off A51 Stapeley

Nantwich and Crewe residents are being warned to be prepared as Storm Aileen is set to sweep through Cheshire tonight (Sept 12)

The Met Office has issued an Amber weather warning for Cheshire, with forecasters predicting winds of up to 75mph.

Cheshire Police say people should prepare for structural damage with falling trees, power lines and road closures.

The warning for Cheshire is due to come into force at 8pm with winds expected to reach 50-60mph across the county.

The peak of the storm is due to hit in the early hours of Wednesday with gusts of 65-75mph expected.

Inspector Richard Rees, from Cheshire Police, said: “Thankfully the worst of Storm Aileen is set to hit Cheshire during the early hours of Wednesday morning, which should minimise the impact of the disruption.

“However, with winds expected to reach 75mph, fallen trees and power lines are likely, which may result in road closures.

“Therefore, I would advise all motorists to allow extra time for their journey on Wednesday morning and take extra care while travelling.”

To report a power failure, call the national helpline on 105.
