Police officers in Crewe have donated £400 to the Salvation Army Christmas appeal to help families in the town.

Officers based in Crewe Police Station collected money to help the campaign which helps local children and families who have fallen on hard times during the festive period.

It provides Christmas presents which the youngsters would otherwise not have received.

Major Steven Watson, the church minister who is heading the appeal, accepted the donation from the officers on December 22 at the police station.

He said: “We have had an unprecedented demand and referrals from agencies compared to last year for families in need of support.

“This donation will go a long way to help.”

PCSO Stephanie Reeves said: “We were delighted to be able to donate the cheque to the Salvation Army to spread some Christmas cheer to families who are less fortunate.”
