A 45-year-old man who was found with serious injuries outside an Audlem pub has died, Nantwich Police have confirmed.

The cause of death is still unknown, however police are treating the death as suspicious.

Officers had to seal off a part of Shropshire Road A525, from Green Street to Stafford Street, this morning while investigations took place.

Police were called out shortly after 1am after reports of an incident outside the Bridge Inn, Shropshire Street, Audlem.

One resident said the man was well-known in the village, but police are yet to release his identity.

Detective Inspector Sarah Oliver said: “At this stage it’s not clear whether the man has sustained the injuries as the result of an assault or whether he has been involved in a collision and our inquiries are ongoing in the local area to try and establish exactly what has happened.

“Officers remain in the local area and I would like to thank local residents for their patience and cooperation.”
