Showtime - Crewe Lyceum Theatre, to stage a wedding fayre, and summer events

I’ve been a fan of Fawlty Towers for as long as I can remember.

So, when the opportunity arose, I jumped at the chance to attend the Fawlty Towers dining experience at Crewe Lyceum.

I wasn’t sure how the evening would work, I’d heard different things from different people. But I’m so glad that I went.

It was interactive theatre at its absolute best. The evening started with Manuel appearing in the bar and ushered us all upstairs to our tables in the Fawlty Towers restaurant.

There were 32 guests in total, and I think being part of a smaller audience made the experience more unique and lead to a better atmosphere.

Throughout the evening Basil, Sybil, Polly and Manuel take care of you in their own ‘unique’ way.

The well-known characters walked around the tables as the guests are eating, asking questions and generally causing mayhem.

In between courses, scenes from the iconic show are expertly re-created in the middle of the space. We were reminded of Manuel’s pet hamster, Basil’s gambling and a possible visit from the hotel inspectors.

The more the evening went on, the more the guests settled down and relaxed into enjoying themselves.

If you go, be prepared to be involved in some way or another. There was lots of laughter throughout the entire show, and the evening flowed effortlessly from one scene to another.

When the actors encourage so much interaction with the audience you soon realise and appreciate how skilled they are in their roles.

The improvisation between the characters and the guests was fantastic and this is what makes the experience so memorable.

The food was amazing, and yes as you’d expect, the starter was waldorf salad. This is truly a unique dining and theatre experience.

If you’re a fan of the show, then I recommend you book yourself onto the next Fawlty Towers dining experience at The Lyceum when it returns in January, 2019.
