A dog training team is hoping their four-legged pupils all get an A star when they start weekend dog training classes at a Nantwich school.

The Dogs Trust Dog School Shropshire and Cheshire team will be holding classes on Saturdays at Nantwich Primary Academy on Manor Road from next month.

And they’ll be hoping to prove they can teach young and old dogs new tricks.

Head Coach Rachel Rodgers said: “My school days are far behind me but I’m looking forward to returning to school in Nantwich with all our dogs and families.

“We believe a dog is for life and so we want to help owners and dogs build a fantastic bond through positive training so they can develop a wonderful lifelong relationship.”

The team was awarded a Highly Commended for Excellence in Customer Service at the South Cheshire Business Awards.

And Rachel won Animal Trainer of the Year at the national Animal Star Awards before Christmas.

Now the four-strong team are preparing to work with local dog-owners and their four-legged friends.

There will be classes for puppies aged up to 18 weeks, adolescent dogs aged up to 18 months and adult dogs, at the Nantwich Academy.

Classes will teach dogs all the basics including how to sit and lie down when asked, come back when called, to be comfortable around different noises, to settle down and relax, how to walk nicely on the lead, and how to interact with other dogs.

Rachel added: “We teach the basic behaviours that dogs and owners need to get along in their day to day lives.

“For example, most owners need their dog to sit when asked, walk calmly on a loose lead and settle down when they stop to natter to their neighbour or have a pint in the pub!”
