NHS face shields by Gateway Components

A Nantwich firm which started making face shields for NHS frontline COVID-19 staff, has been “overwhelmed” by people wanting to help after the story featured on Nantwich News.

Staff at Gateway Electronic Components wanted to use their specialist 3D printers to construct shields for frontline staff in the local area.

The firm, on Beam Heath Way, appealed for members of the public who had spare 3D printers to loan them so they could expand their production of face shields.

Its own printers were working 24 hours a day to make as many as possible.

But since our story on April 15, the company has been inundated with offers of help from volunteers.

Technical manager Josh Bailey told us: “We have been overwhelmed by the response that your article raised.

“We have had 10 volunteers running their own 3D printers at home along with the five that are running at our office.

“We have had some people purchase printers so that they can help.

“And companies have been donating raw materials such as visors!”

So far, the company has shipped around 700 face shields, and the company has increased its capacity to making 100 units every day.

“We focused on supporting the local community as a priority,” added Josh.

“And I’m pleased to say we have now fulfilled all known orders.

“However, if anyone still needs these locally we are happy to donate.

“We still have a lot of orders to fulfill around the country so we are continuing to produce these as a matter of urgency.

“We just want to say thank you to everyone who has helped.”

Josh and his team are also running a blog to update people with the work they are doing.

It also lists all the people and companies who have come forward to help boost capacity and donate.

    Good Afternoon

Could you advise if you are still making face visors as I am looking to purchase some for my carers?
