A fish-like creature has been spotted along the Shropshire Union Canal in and around Nantwich, sparking photos and comments across social media over where it came from!

The stern-looking orange and black coloured beast – known locally as ‘Nantwich Nessie’ – appears to be a hybrid of the clownfish from the movie Finding Nemo and the mystical Loch Ness Monster.

However, there are rumours that it is a giant orange shark stuffed toy commonly won at funfairs, although this is yet to be proven.

The lonesome animal, which is 6ft long, is not believed to be dangerous with no attacks yet reported and it has been spotted as far afield as Hurleston and Swanley.

It is not yet known if the weathered specimen is trying to find Nemo or migrating to pair up with the ‘shark’ that has been regularly sighted in Nantwich Lake!

One Nantwich resident feels there is something fishy going on.

They said: “Nantwich Nessie has quickly adapted to survive both in water and on land and moves with impressive speed from one day to the next.

“My dog is a bit scared of it, so it has not yet had to learn how to outrun its potential enemies.

“I guess nothing would want to eat a clownfish as it tastes funny.

“I’m assuming it sleeps on a waterbed.

“It is fintastic for the local area, but I will scale back on any more fish puns.”
