High Street - Nantwich - closed road

The main through road in Nantwich town centre is likely to remain closed for some time after a vehicle crashed into a building, leaving it unsafe.

The incident happened on the corner of Swine Market and High Street on Thursday (March 11).

The collision to the front of the Hope House Hospice store caused structural damage to the building.

As reported by Nantwich News, the incident happened at around 6.30am on Thursday and the vehicle failed to stop at the scene.

Police and highways engineers have had to cordon off the building and close the road in both directions.

High St/Swine Market/Oat Market/Beam Street still closed in both directions.

A spokesperson for Cheshire East Council said: “The road will be closed for a while because the property owner has engaged a structural engineer to assess the damage.

“We can’t say yet when it will reopen.”

Cheshire Police says anyone who witnessed the collision should call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML 935777.

I trust CEC will monitor traffic movements and take the opportunity to see if Swinemarket/Beam St could be made access only (except buses

    • Yeah forget the fact that there is a taxi rank there also. And the traffic movement is largely on to Manor Road and then Wall Lane round past the swimming baths and past car parks.
In normal times there is a lot of pedestrians on those car parks. To shut Swine Market fully would just be insane and dangerous.

  2. Given there is a CCTV camera over that road I hope they can identify the vehicle
