Crewe Vagrants CC’s three adult sides all came out on top in their latest round of fixtures in searing heat over the weekend.
The Ladies (pictured) had a successful journey to Alsager, playing in front of a crowd who were also enjoying a gin and beer festival!
Crewe lost the toss and were put into bat. The opening two pairs made a solid start with some good rotation of the strike and the loss of only one wicket by the half way stage.
The second half of the innings saw the strike rate escalate with Nicki Jarvis, Sheila Walker-Hulse and Lisa Taylor performing strongly scoring net 25, 19 and 14 respectively.
Crewe set a target of 122 to beat. And their first breakthrough came in the second over with a well-judged overhead catch by Lisa Taylor off Bela Smith’s bowling.
Some tight early bowling, with three of the first six overs going for two runs or less, kept Alsager’s score in check.
More catches followed – one by Dawn Price off Rosie Meakin’s bowling and the other caught by Rosie off Lisa Taylor.
Our fourth and final wicket was clean bowled by Clair Walker-Hulse.
Alsager’s final pair fought well with a string of boundaries but the target was out of reach and Crewe won by 37 runs.
The Men’s 1st team maintained their 100% record with a decisive win against league contenders Little Stoke.
The visitors’ batters struggled against the controlled attack from Captain Cal Bacon (3-44) and the usual tightness from Ollie Jarvis (1-26).
Little Stoke’s Todd Talbot (24) and Andy Leese (21) were their only ones to show resistance on a turning track as Crewe’s offies Faisir Mahmood (2-15) and Rory Kalnins (4-19) bamboozled their opponents to 108 all out.
The reply was stunted as normal game-winners Rory Kalnins and Lew Bacon were dismissed early.
The visitor’s spinners made the going difficult and but for an outstanding patient 56 from Ollie Jarvis, the game could have gone their way.
At 59 for 4, Ollie and brother Ben (13) rallied and with coach Sam Youds (12 NO) returning after his long knee surgery lay-off, saw the game to its conclusion to make it 10 wins out of 10.
Crewe’s 2nds won the toss also decided to take the field in their victory over Sandbach.
Early success from Johnathan Bourne (4 – 14) together with the economy of Andy Whittingham (1-16), broke the back of the hosts.
Luke Williams (26) solely showed some resilience in attaining a team total of 109 all out.
Mike Whittingham dismissed 3 for 18, Frazier Hoye with Haveesh got a wicket apiece and wicketless young Harry Wynne-Hughes bowled well restricting 16 runs off his eight overs.
Crewe’s winning runs were spread over only 20.5 overs and losing only two wickets, with Hamish Howard (20), Pun Nidamanuri (30), Captain Max Gay (19NO) and Haveesh Alluri (25NO) securing the win.
On Saturday the 1sts are away to Moddershall and 2nds home to Checkley.
The Ladies have three matches this week – away at Haslington, away at Little Peover and away at Wistaston.
