Crewe Vagrants CC 1sts suffered their first defeat of the season away at Congleton.
The decision to bat first seemed to be the right choice, but the Congleton wicket disagreed.
None of the usually dependent early batters could cope with the pace and accuracy of home opener Jack Higginbottom, whose 5 for 28 decimated the Crewe innings.
Only a bright 20 from Ollie Jarvis had shown any resistance.
Captain Cal Bacon (16), Nathan Twiddle (14) and a solid 23 from keeper Ryan Briddon helped them to a final 104 target.
In reply, Congleton’s Jack Goode (24) and man of the match Jack Higginbottom (31 NO) grafted their team to a four-wicket win.
Faisir Mahmood (3-16) and Cal Bacon (2-35) were the pick of Crewe’s bowlers.
Also against Congleton, Crewe 2nds won by five wickets.
Congleton could only muster a 99 total, with Frazier Howe (3-25) and Piers Stockton (3-17) the pick of Crewe’s bowlers.
The Crewe batters weathered through to victory, with mainstays Frazier (23) and Mike Whittingham (20NO) taking the starring roles.
Crewe CC Ladies earned wins against Mobberley and Haslington.
Mobberley batted first and made 76 despite being 51 for no loss at the halfway stage.
Crewe took five wickets through Lucy Jones, Jess Kimberley, Bela Smith and a one-handed low catch by Sheila Walker-Hulse off her own bowling.
Crewe batting partnerships saw six out of eight batters finishing on double figures taking Crewe to a winning total of 121. Kimberley top scored with net 25.
Batting first against Haslington, Crewe reached a total of net 85 with Nicki Jarvis (18) and Lisa Taylor (16) top scoring.
And in the field, Crewe were too strong as wickets came thick and fast with two in each of the first two overs and a further six taken throughout the innings.
Dawn Price notched 2 for 8, while Heidi Schacht bagged two wickets with catches from Lisa Taylor and Nicki Jarvis as well as a run out.
Crewe cantered to a comfortable 49-run victory.
