Tributes have been paid by friends of Nantwich teenager Jonty Evans on the anniversary of his tragic and mysterious death.
The 16-year-old was reported missing after a night out in Nantwich during Food Festival 2024.
The former Malbank School pupil was later discovered by police divers in the River Weaver near Riverside on September 1st last year.
In the months since, friends, family and the wider community have continued to share tributes to the much-loved teenager.
A banner remains attached to the River Weaver weir footbridge, where Jonty was found, bearing his photograph alongside the words: “Rest in peace Jonty. Forever 16. xx”
On social media, messages of love and remembrance have been posted to the “Justice For Jonty” Facebook group.
Connie Owen wrote: “11 months have gone by since you left, and it still feels unreal. I miss our talks, your laugh, and just having you around.
“Life isn’t the same without you, but I hold onto all the good times we shared. your always in my thoughts, and I hope you have the best bed in heaven❤️Love you always.”
Another heartfelt tribute came from Lacey-Jade Scarlett, who said: “Eleven months without you.
“My heart breaks a little more each day knowing ill never hear your voice and see your beautiful face ever again, love you forever j ill see you in another life.”

An inquest into Jonty’s death was held at Cheshire Coroner’s Court in July which concluded that he died from the effects of immersion in water.
But how he came to be in the River Weaver could not be determined.
Coroner Victoria Davies delivered a narrative verdict, saying it was not possible to establish whether Jonty had fallen into the water accidentally or if anyone else was involved.
She told his family: “Sadly, I think we are never going to be able to establish the true circumstances as to how Jonty came to be in the water. I am truly very sorry to you and the rest of your family for your loss.”
Jonty’s family reported him missing the day after he failed to return home from a night out at Nantwich Food Festival on August 30th.
His mum Martina spoke exclusively to Nantwich News earlier this year, vowing never to give up fighting for justice.
She believes other people may be responsible for Jonty’s death.
