Crewe Vagrants Cricket Club are celebrating in style after the men’s 1st team secured promotion and the ladies team won their league title.
The 1sts took the field at home to Norton-in -Hales at the Vagrants in Willaston.
The opening bowlers started well taking early wickets and apart from C Bellfield (20) and M Waller (28) none of the visiting batters coped with Crewe’s attack.
A fine performance from Faisal Mahmood (5-7), taking his tally to 50 wickets this season, and good support from Rory Kalnins (2-13) restricted Norton to just 62 all out.
A wicket each for captain Cal B and Ollie Jarvis was just reward, and a fine piece of fielding from captain Cal accounted for the other wicket.
The target was easily reached as an aggressive start from Rory Kalnins (35NO) ably assisted by Ryan Briddon’s 11 saw the game over in just eight overs.
The win ensures promotion and an outside chance of winning the league.

The men’s 2nd team played away at Betley and after losing a couple of early wickets, Piers Stockton (39) and Frazier Hoye (53) steadied the ship.
With 31 from Haveesh Alluri and a cavalier knock of 38 from Johnathan Bourne (38), the score rose to 219 for 9.
Betley batters found difficulty in the pace of Johnathan Bourne (3–11) and the accuracy of Andy Whittingham (3-7) and never recovered from early losses. They crashed to 99 all out.
And the Ladies side completed a memorable week, after they secured their league title in their replayed match at Mobberley.
Rearranged after a washout last weekend, their final league game turned out to be a thriller.
It was reduced to 12 overs per innings due to the fading light. Crewe started steadily and lost a couple of early wickets.
But some strong hitting from Nerys Oates (18) and Jess Kimberley (16) gained back the momentum.
Three more wickets fell as the innings progressed and a target of net 72 was set.
Mobberley started strongly and were 20 for no loss after 3 overs.
Two wickets in two balls from Hannah Jarvis halted that momentum. Another wicket fell to Nic Shrubb and set up a tense finish.
But a final wicket caught by Hannah Jarvis off the bowling of Nerys Oates, coupled with some great bowling all round, left Mobberley needing 10 to win off the final over.
Jess Kimberley nailed the final six balls conceding only four singles and Crewe won by five runs.
They win the league win and earn a place in the county finals day on September 14.
