For their latest production, Nantwich Players brings us comedy and drama in “The Last of the Haussmans” written by Stephen Beresford.
We meet three generations of the Haussman family, each with their own stories, dreams and ambitions.
Judy is the matriarch of the family, an aging hippy, living in the house which once belonged to her parents, which she has neglected over the years and left to go to rack and ruin.
Recently diagnosed with cancer, Judy is visited by her children, Libby and Nick, and her granddaughter, Summer.
As you might find in any family, there is conflict, guilt, love and eventually forgiveness.
Directed by Maximilian Clay, and with a script full of witty one liners, the cast delivered a great production.
Janan Chopra was fabulous as Judy, her timing and approach to the character was superb. Pippa Watkin gave a strong performance as a typical adolescent as Summer.
Catherine Moore was great as Libby, the stressed out single mother struggling to come to terms with life and it seems, always looking for love.
Stephen Clay gave a strong performance as Nick, a recovering heroin addict who didn’t seem pleased to be back at the family home.
The house itself has a significant presence in the play, much more than just bricks and mortar, almost like another character.
Credit once again to the set design and construction team at The Players who transform the stage with such detail for each and every production.
A strong and well executed production, “The Last of the Haussmans” is running at the Players Theatre until October 25th.
