Mill House residential village, Queen's Drive, Nantwich

A housing association say they are tackling a “rat” problem at a residential home in Nantwich, despite residents claiming more needs to be done.

Residents say vermin are finding their way back into Mill House on Queens Drive, months after the problem first surfaced and was tackled.

The home, run by Guinness Partnership, has 43 apartments with kitchens and living spaces.

There is also a residents’ lounge, café, library, IT area, wellbeing suite, beauty salon and podiatry suite.

One resident told Nantwich News: “Rats are back – an elderly lady has been evacuated from her apartment as they have wrecked her home.

“This issue has now returned again because neither the pest control or Guinness have been vigilant enough to get to the real underlying issue.

“This has put our scheme manager in a very awkward position as the complaints are fired at her and it isn’t fair as she is on the property all day this serious issue is now causing discontent with residents and visitors.

“It is quite frightening to know these creatures are within the property.”

She claims rats have been in a number of apartments and poison has been placed in each but with little effect.

“The lady who was evacuated was told the rats had got in from the kitchen wall between a space at the back she has been in the small spare room for nearly two weeks, not easy for a lady of 84.

“I and other residents are very uneasy and scared as their seems no end to this issue.”

She said two elderly women had now been evacuated.

“All we want is proof that these pests can be permanently removed from within the property.

“We are all now feeling very nervous as we know to address this very serious issue would be very costly.

“We have had no information and are being kept in the dark.”

A spokesperson from The Guinness Partnership said: “We have previously carried out pest control and prevention work in response to reports of rats at some properties at Mill House.

“Following further contact with residents our specialist contractors have visited again this week, and no evidence associated with rats was found.

“One of our residents moved into a spare guestroom at Mill House pending the visit and inspection by our specialist contractors.

“Whilst there was no evidence of rats, we are carrying out further additional preventative work to reassure her.

“Our contractors will carry out further checks at Mill House in the coming weeks and we remain committed to ensuring the property is comfortable for all residents.

“We will continue to monitor the situation closely and are sorry for any concern and inconvenience experienced by residents.”

As a tenant of a Guinness Partnership property, I can confirm that they will be entirely neglectful and blatantly dishonest when it comes to issues of resident safety and wellbeing. Even the local authority does a better job.

  2. I know from personal experience, how nasty rats can be.

I am also aware that a number of vulnerable females reside in the care home and if they are concerned that the building is unsafe, I could offer them accommodation for a few weeks.

  3. My house backs onto this area. I can confirm that there are rats, I even caught one on my video camera (set up for watching birds/wildlife)
Nobody has done a leaflet drop in the area asking those who are then to get in touch

I still have the video if anyone wants to get in touch with me.

  4. Bet they’re paying a fortune in service fees too
