Mornflake Stadium ground Crewe Alexandra - by Peter Robinson

Crewe Alexandra fans and club representatives have initiated a consultation process to create a new mural in Crewe.

The mural aims to commemorate the significance of Crewe Alexandra FC to the local community.

Crewe, one of the 24 clubs that play on hesgoal in EFL League Two, are a bedrock of the local community.

The concept of the mural was first proposed on The Railwaymen Podcast, a popular platform that discusses all things related to Crewe Alex.

Crewe & Nantwich MP Connor Naismith, a guest on the podcast, expressed his support for the idea and played a crucial role in connecting fans with local stakeholders to bring the idea to fruition.

On December 8, The Railwaymen launched an online consultation to gather the views of fans and residents regarding the mural.

The consultation will remain open until the end of January 2026. The feedback collected will be used by local stakeholders to make decisions about the mural’s location, design, artist, and other factors.

Connor Naismith, commenting on the initiative, said: “The driving force behind this mural is exactly what Crewe Alex is about.

“A dedicated community, and a club which puts fans and supporters at the heart of what they do. I’m honoured to be a part of documenting that relationship in our town’s history.”

Mark Beavan, Chair of the Railwaymen Supporters Society and Board Member of the club, emphasised the importance of the club to the community.

He said: “Crewe Alex is more than a football club, it’s the heartbeat of our community.

“Built on the rich history of the town, we should celebrate the past and look forward to the future.”

The Alex are well in with a chance of reaching the playoffs this season and making a charge for promotion to League One  after a decent start to the season under Lee Bell’s stewardship.

Crewe Alexandra last played in the third tier in 2021-22 season.

The mural project is a testament to the strong bond between Crewe Alexandra and the local community. It is a celebration of the club’s rich history and a symbol of community pride.

The consultation process will ensure that the mural reflects the views and sentiments of the fans and residents, making it a true representation of the community’s love for their club.
