Wistaston Singers perform (1)

Wistaston Singers are to begin 2026 on a high note as they present their first concert of the year.

The fundraiser concert in aid of Cancer Research UK will take place on Saturday January 17th at St Mary’s Church Hall, Wistaston.

Joining the Singers on the night will be St Mary’s Church Choir, Wistaston Belles handbell ensemble, and talented soloists Liam Tyler and Lucia Kemp, ensuring a varied and entertaining programme.

Tickets are £10 for adults and £5 for under-16s, with all proceeds donated to Cancer Research UK, supporting the charity’s vital work.

Tickets are available by contacting Wistaston Singers or St Mary’s Church Office.

The chosen charity holds special meaning for the choir and performers.

Soloist Lucia Kemp, a former Wistaston Rose Queen, selected Cancer Research UK as her charity during her year-long reign.

It’s a new chapter for Wistaston Singers as it will be their first performance under new musical director Clare Shackleton, following the retirement of Phil Houghton, who led and shaped the choir for more than 20 years.

With around 60 members aged from their 20s to their 80s, Wistaston Singers are known for their friendly, inclusive atmosphere and wide-ranging repertoire.

Their music spans musical theatre favourites, classic hits from The Beatles and Queen, through to Mozart and other classical works.

The choir welcomes new members, particularly men, to help balance the harmonies.

Anyone interested is invited to attend a free taster session, held every Wednesday from 7.30pm to 9.30pm at Gainsborough Primary School, Belgrave Road, Crewe.
