town square - vehicle restrictions

Nantwich Police say they are close to identifying the illegal rider of an e-scooter which crashed into a teenage girl and fled.

The incident on the pedestrianised part of High Street left the 15-year-old victim with minor injuries.

Police have revealed they now have good CCTV images which they believe will help them identify the rider.

Sgt Matt Stonier told town councillors: “Fortunately the girl was not seriously injured but it again highlights this issue of e-scooters and e-bikes being used illegally.

“No bikes should be ridden through the town square, never mind e-bikes or scooters.

“We’ve uncovered some really good CCTV images and we hope to identify the rider of the scooter in this incident.

“We hope be taking some action around this soon.”

The incident happened at around 4.30pm on Monday February 9th outside Nantwich Bookshop.

One witness said: “He didn’t stop to make sure she was okay, instead he rode off.

“The collision didn’t look nice and despite the girl saying she was okay, I’m sure it hurt her.

“To the girl, I hope you’re okay and if you would like to report it to the police I am happy to be a witness, as I’m sure others who witnessed it would be.

“To the boy, you were riding your e-scooter illegally and carelessly on public pavement. I hope you have the decency to come forward and apologise to the girl.”

It’s the latest in a number of incidents involving the illegal use of e-bikes and e-scooters in the town.

In September, a 59-year-old pedestrian was seriously injured on Waterlode when he was hit by someone riding an illegal e-bike.

Police arrested a 20-year-old man in that incident.
