call for sites - map of Nantwich

Nantwich Town councillors have rejected Cheshire East’s invitation to suggest sites around the town for development.

One councillor hit back, claiming the authority was “trying to concrete the whole of Cheshire East”.

CEC has launched a 2026 “call for sites” inviting landowners, developers, local residents and other parties to put forward sites that they consider are suitable and available for future development.

They carried out a similar process in 2024, which led to a number of sites in and around Nantwich being highlighted.

These included land off Broad Land and Batherton Lane in Stapeley, now subject to housing development applications.

They also included land south of Newcastle Road in Willaston, where David Lloyd Leisure are bidding to build a new leisure complex.

Other land off Cheerbrook roundabout was identified, as was land east of the A51 Nantwich Bypass in Willaston, and land to the east of Birchin Lane in Nantwich.

Land off Waterlode, which appears to be in the River Weaver flood plain near the new Kingsbourne development, is also highlighted on Cheshire East’s map.

Town councillors reacted negatively to the latest call from Cheshire East when they discussed it at last night’s monthly meeting.

Cllr Arthur Moran said: “If we look at Stapeley, we already have Muller applying for 400 more homes, Seddon want 275 homes, and Nightingale another 75.

“I do think we are trying to concrete the whole of Cheshire East, so I don’t think we should be submitting any sites.”

Cllr Kim Jamson agreed, adding: “I don’t feel at this stage we should be in dialogue about new estates in or around Nantwich.”

Town clerk Samantha Roberts said: “This is a consultation and we don’t have to submit sites that should be considered for our town.

“Once the local authority has a list there will be a further consultation on a draft plan which will give us a chance to submit any objections or concerns.”

  1. Cheshire East just have REVENUE eyes. Have no consideration to the environment and devastation of Nantwich and surrounding areas. Soon we will look at photographs of fields and open spaces, AND be like Watford, seeing concrete cows, as there will be nothing left.

    CONCRETE, SYNTHETIC FOOD AND MEAT.

I think you should build everywhere as we are desperate for housing

  4. How much more can Nantwich take. The traffic is a nightmare even without endless roadworks then there’s the high schools issue. Not good enough.

Maybe they should be identifying sites first a new high school first!
