Young boxers from Jabbin Dabber Club in Nantwich took on rivals Knowsley Vale in Liverpool at the Long Lane Show at Fusion Nightclub.
Among those in action were the Buckley brothers, with 15-year-old Charlie Buckley (65kg) taking on Bobby Green, also 15 and competing at 65kg.
It was Charlie’s first bout in a year, and the ring rust was evident against a sharp and active opponent.
Despite that, Buckley showed plenty of quality in the opening two rounds, landing the heavier shots and boxing well in patches.
Green edged both rounds through sheer work rate and constant pressure.
The pace began to tell in the third, and Buckley was given a standing eight count right at the end of the round.
Green ultimately took the contest with a unanimous decision.
Also representing the club was 12-year-old Henry (46kg), who faced Ethan Wallace, 13, of Knowsley Vale, weighing in at 44kg.
It proved to be a closely contested bout, with both youngsters showing good skill and determination throughout.
At times it was difficult to separate the pair, but when the scorecards were read it was Wallace who edged the decision, taking the bout by split decision.
The busy week concluded as Jabbin’ Dabber’s Finley Harris (14yrs, 57kg) made his debut in a skills bout just across the border in Staffordshire.
Harris faced Oliver Malbon (14yrs, 56.5kg) of Queensbury Police Amateur Boxing Club.
With both boxers instructed to keep the power down, the contest became a valuable learning experience for the pair.
Each round saw both fighters attempting different combinations and techniques they had been working on in the gym.
