The Wingate Centre in Wrenbury near Nantwich has appointed two new Vice Presidents, including Nantwich paralympic champion Andy Small.
Andy (pictured) is joined by Gyles Brandreth, TV celebrity and former MP.
They will replace outgoing Vice Presidents Nick Hancock and Sir Maurice Kay.
The centre is an independent charity providing inclusive sport, recreation and residential opportunities for children, young people and adults with special educational needs and disabilities.
It says the two new Vice Presidents bring with them a wealth of experience and a shared passion for inclusion.
Andy Small MBE is a Paralympic wheelchair racer who won bronze in the T33 100m at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games and gold at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
Born with cerebral palsy, Andy has become an inspiring role model for disabled athletes and young people across the UK.
And Gyles Brandreth, writer, broadcaster and former MP for the City of Chester, is known for his appearances on programmes such as Countdown, Celebrity Gogglebox and BBC Radio 4’s Just a Minute.
“VPs are very important to charities,” said a Wingate Centre spokesperson.
“And we are tremendously grateful to Sir Maurice Kay and Nick Hancock for their involvement with the charity over many years.
“It’s amazing to have Andy and Gyles agree to join our team as VPs.
“Their support as The Wingate Centre seeks to broaden its offering and impact will be extremely valuable.
“I’d like to personally thank Bryony Page, who suggested Andy for the position.
“And I’m also very appreciative of the ongoing support from Aphra Brandreth MP and Lady Pauline Barlow who were both instrumental in bringing Gyles.
“The Wingate Centre would like to extend its sincere thanks to its outgoing Vice Presidents, Nick Hancock and Sir Maurice Kay, for their valued support and commitment to the charity.
“Their encouragement and advocacy have been greatly appreciated and have helped champion the work of the Centre and the people it supports.
“The Wingate Centre looks forward to working with its new Vice Presidents as it continues to develop opportunities for people of all abilities to participate in sport, recreation and residential experiences in a supportive and inclusive environment.”
