Rob Jones of Nantwich CC 1st team

Rob Jones and Luke Robinson put on a brilliant 209-run partnership to help Nantwich CC continue their challenge at the top of Cheshire’s ECB Premier League.

The pair were together for 27 overs after Nantwich – batting first after Robinson had won the toss – had been reduced to 86-3 by high-flying Cheadle at Whitehouse Lane.

Robinson, the league’s top-scorer, hit six sixes and 19 fours in his 82-ball 141 while Jones (pictured) compiled a chanceless 103.

Some late hitting from Jackson Bentley (24no) helped the Dabbers to a total of 354-6 from their 55 overs.

Cheadle never seriously threatened to get close to their target as Scott Wardley claimed four wickets in the visitors’ total of 185 all out.

Ray Doyle, Phil Stockton and Ollie Griffiths chipped in with two wickets apiece.

The 169-run victory means Nantwich are now level with Cheadle, 20 points behind leaders Didsbury.

Oxton CC are the visitors to Whitehouse Lane on Saturday and the game will start at the earlier time of 11am. All spectators are welcome and the bar and catering facilities will be open all day.

For the second team, Jakob Jordan (68) and Lou Vincent (52) top-scored as Nantwich posted 254-7 from their 50 overs after electing to bat first at Oxton.

Jason Foulkes took a couple of wickets in the Oxton reply but opener Grant Hughes hit an unbeaten 151 to guide the home side to victory with a couple of overs and four wickets to spare.

There was also a defeat for the Saturday thirds despite Callum Pearson making an accomplished 77 for the Dabbers.

But Nantwich were restricted to 130-5 from their 40 overs and visitors Wood Lane reached their target for the loss of only three wickets.

Richard Goodwin (37) top-scored for the Sunday thirds as they tried to chase down an imposing total of 270-2 set by home side Stockport Georgians.

But the target proved far too big and the Dabbers were all out for 165.

Nantwich Women’s first team enjoyed a comprehensive win at Lindow after winning the toss and electing to bat.

Bethan Hughes made 64 and useful contributions from Izzi Pearson (46) and Morganne Prince (34) helped Nantwich to 199-5 from their 40 overs.

And they made short work of the home side’s batting, Rebecca Othick taking 4-12 and Eleanor Sinker 3-9 as Lindow were bowled out for 77.
